Graduate Nurse Program

OUR APPROACH

Calvary Health Care Riverina’s approach to the Graduate Nurse Transitional Support Program is based on our own philosophy of respect for the individual, and on the concept of an accomplished health care professional, who needs guidance and support to assist in the transition from university student to registered nurse.

OUR AIM THEREFORE IS:

To provide the graduate with the support, guidance and exposure to learning experiences that will enable them to become operational health care professionals.

OUR PROGRAM

 commences in February each year
 Consists of 44 weeks duration , including 2 weeks annual leave
 Has a part time option available
 Contains clinical support, provided by an allocated Preceptor & the Clinical Nurse Educator in each area
 Consists of 6 study days

OUR PROGRAM STRUCTURE

During the Program Graduate Registered Nurses may gain clinical experience in Medical/Surgical Nursing, High Dependency Nursing, Preadmission/Discharge Planning, Day Only Procedures, Orthopaedic Nursing, ENT, Gynaecology, General Surgery, Cancer/Palliative Nursing, Ophthalmology and Coronary Care.
The program also contains an elective rotation.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Calvary Health Care Riverina is committed to ongoing support of the staff’s professional development. Our Program portrays a model of education whereby we have dedicated clinical nurse educators and clinical nurse specialists, who are committed to the mentorship of our graduate nurses.
CHCR have various ongoing mentorships in Operating theatre, Intensive Care and Palliative Care Nursing, so that the commitment to a career path in Nursing is not limited to the Grad program
We have comprehensive monthly inservice education calendars, and access to applications for financial support for professional development activities; and a number of self-learning & supported learning packages .
CHCR also have a comprehensive e-learning system which is available for all staff to access
