Day Procedure Centre - Your Stay

The Calvary Day Procedure Centre aims to provide the best possible environment for you to have your surgery or procedure without an overnight hospital stay.
It is important that you read the Pre-admission Package that the doctor has given you as it contains important information regarding your procedure. Ensure that you complete information on page 2, important discharge information on page 3 and medical history on page 6.
Please bring or post the completed forms to the Day Procedure Centre or Calvary Hospital at least 10 days prior to your procedure.
It is recommended that you contact your health fund to confirm your level of cover (ie if you have an excess etc) prior to your procedure.
Please telephone the Calvary Day Procedure Centre on (02) 69254700, the day prior to your surgery between 9.00 am and 12 noon to confirm the time of your admission and fasting requirements. (Please ring on a Friday prior to a Monday appointment)
PRE SURGERY: Please note that failure to follow the instructions listed below may necessitate cancellation of your procedure:
- Do not take products containing aspirin or anti-inflammatories for one week prior to admission.
- Do not wear jewellery, nail polish or make-up, or bring valuables with you.
- If you are having a morning operation, do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before your procedue.
- If you are having an afternoon operation, you should only have a cup of tea or coffee and a piece of toast before 7.00 am and nothing to eat or drink after that.
- Please discuss with your doctor or contact the Day Procedure Centre to find out whether you should take your regular medications on the day of your surgery.
- Please shower before coming for your procedure - do not use talcum powder. Wear casual, loose clothing and comfortable shoes.
- Please bring any relevant x-rays.
- If there is a change in your condition between now and the day of surgery please contact your doctor (eg you have a cold or a fever).
- You should lnot smoke for at least 24 hours prior to surgry.
- Do not bring children with you (other than the patient) as they may become restless and bored.
POST SURGERY
- Please make arranements in advance for a responsible adult to accompany you when you leave the Day Procedure Centre. You must not drive yourself home, nor travel alone as it is unsafe to do so, no matter how well you may feel. If you have not made prior arrangements for transport home, your procedure may be cancelled. Travel home by taxi is not suitable.
- Before you leave the Day Procedure Centre, you will be given written post-operative instructions to take home with you.
- If you have had a general anaesthetic or sedation, you must have an adult stay with you overnight.
